Finn Allen IPL 2024: Who Would Kiwi Opener Play For In The Upcoming Season?

The 3rd and last T20 match of the series between New Zealand and Pakistan saw a storm from the bat of 24-year-old young Kiwi batsman Finn Allen, who thrashed Pakistan’s bowling lineup scoring 137 Runs off just 62 balls, hitting 16 sixes.

The PAK fans who used to say ‘Bhaijaan hamare pacers to 150+ daalte hain na’ would be thinking if these are the preparations of their team for the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to happen in the USA and West Indies.

Finn Allen’s innings proved to be a nightmare not only for Pakistan but also highlighted the disappointing decision of the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, who released him from the team ahead of the upcoming IPL 2024. The young Kiwi batsmen went unsold as no other franchise showed interest in him.

Finn Allen’s Remarkable Inning

New Zealand’s opening batsman Finn Allen scored a record-breaking century in just 48 balls in the third T20 match against Pakistan. No bowler could stop Allen’s thunderstorm on the pitch as beat every Pakistan bowler.

This is what happened with the Pakistani Bowlers at the pitch of University Oval, Dunedin-

Bowler Overs Maiden Runs Wickets Economy
Shaheen Afridi 4 0 43 1 10.80
Zaman Khan 4 0 37 1 9.20
Haris Rauf 4 0 60 2 15.00

Royal Challengers Bangalore Released Finn Allen Ahead of IPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to release Finn Allen before the IPL 2024 auction. A notable inclusion in the team during IPL-2023, Finn Allen was acquired by the franchise for ₹ 80 lakh. Despite being in the squad, he didn’t secure an opportunity to showcase his skills in any match throughout the season. As the IPL-2024 auction unfolded, Finn Allen set his base price at ₹75 lakh; however, none of the other nine franchises expressed interest in buying Finn, making him go unsold.

Third-Fastest T20 Century By A Kiwi Player

Allen’s century marks the third-fastest century achieved by a New Zealand player in the T20I format. In the terms of fastest T20I century by a New Zealand player, only Glenn Phillips (46 balls) and Colin Munro (37 balls) surpass Kiwi opener Allen. This was Allen’s second century in his T20 career, earlier he scored 101(56) in a match against Scotland in 2022.

Victory for New Zealand By 45 Runs

New Zealand, who lost the toss, was invited to bat first by Pakistan Captain Babar Azam. With the help of Finn Allen’s outstanding knock, they set a huge target of 225 in front of Pakistan’s batsmen. Pakistan’s batting line-up, with only Captain Babar Azam scoring a half-century, couldn’t find a warrior who could help them achieve the target and finished the inning at 179/7, facing defeat by 45 runs.
